Here are the sources of the icons used for lbproject. Non-sketch icons: The W3 validator icon (to be used on our web pages and not the brochure) has been downloaded using wget http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-html40.png. Sketch-based icons: Most (in fact all, at the moment) sketch-based icons include a vectorized tux. Original source for colour vector-based Tuxen is the work of Larry Ewing (artistic inspiration), Simon Budig, and Anja Gerwinski (see http://www.home.unix-ag.org/simon/penguin). Much thanks to all! The results obtained here are derived from results in http://www.home.unix-ag.org/simon/penguin/penguin-2.0.tar.gz. When penguin-variant.sk is run through the sketch programme and output as (encapsulated) postscript, the result is a little more complicated (shadow near feet) than the Tuxen displayed at http://www.home.unix-ag.org/simon/penguin/. This foot shadow creates an asymmetric boundary for the result which is not particularly suitable for icons. With the sketch programme (a wonderful LGPLed vector graphics tool!), I removed that shadow object ==> penguin-icon.sk. For the watermark results, I needed a simpler image, and penguin-flat from the above source was ideal. For some reason I could not get penguin-flat.sk to run from the above tarball so I used the eps result as the source instead: pstoedit -f sk: penguin-flat.eps penguin-flat-origin.sk then used sketch to move the origin to 0,0 and output results ==> penguin-flat-origin.sk With sketch I also colorized this image with 93 per cent white (useful for watermarks) ==> penguin-whitewashed.sk. An earlier version of this in CVS was based on a 90 per cent white colorization of penguin-icon, but that image was too complicated (leading to long printing times) just for a watermark so that is why we have moved to penguin-flat-origin as the source of the watermark images. A commented-out stanza in ../Makefile also uses penguin-flat-origin for the first-page icon, but that looked too crude and garish so we have decided to stick with penguin-icon for that icon. penguin-whitewashed.sk now has two rotated variations (since rotations much easier to deal with in sketch than in latex). left_whitewashed.sk is rotated counter-clockwise by 50 deg and adjusted in size and displacement so that the paper outline would just cut it off as is wanted in the brochure watermark. right_whitewashed.sk is adjusted similarly for a clockwise rotation of 180+50 deg. canadian-tux.sk is based on penguin-icon.sk with a layer to change the chest to white (to remove markings that interfere with the maple-leaf) and another maple-leaf layer for the chest area. Note only a small amount of sketch work is required to replace the maple leaf by any other institution's logo. (But if you do such a thing, name the resulting file something else.) applications-ca-tux.sk and distributions-ca-tux.sk are used for the VLUG brochure to head the corresponding sections of the brochure. These are all based on canadian-tux.sk with a special written headline that tux is "thinking" (a la cartoon style) for each section. applications-tux.sk and distributions-tux.sk are vanilla versions of these (used in the generic_world brochure) without the white chest protector and maple-leaf. Deprecated icons: There was no room to use links-ca-tux.sk (yet another variation on the tux theme to head the resources section) in the vlug brochure, but we will leave it for now in case someone else can use it or vary it. Removed icons: N.B. Only the sketch source files are put under cvs control. The eps results are generated by each user under Makefile control using the sk2ps command-line python script that is part of the sketch package. In the past, we have had eps icons under cvs control but those (penguin-flat-origin.eps, penguin-icon.eps, and penguin-whitewashed.eps) have now been deleted from cvs. The Monochrome Tux logo was downloaded from Larry Ewing's penguin page at http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/penguin.eps.gz and uncompressed. It is no longer used (didn't like no colour and no source) and was eventually deleted from cvs. The Colour Tux log was downloaded from Larry Ewing's penguin page at http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/sit3-shine.7.gif. It is no longer used (gif's are bit-mapped so not scalable) and was eventually deleted from cvs. The original Victoria LUG logo was downloaded from http://ladybug.vlug.org/images/vlug_big.gif. This was used in the example (from VLUG) membership application form, but has now been superseded by the sketch-based, vlug.sk. Thus, vlug_big.gif has now been deleted from cvs.
